Have you ever gone to a restaurant with great anticipation of eating one of your favorite meals only to be met at the door by a crowd?  So you enter and give the hostess your name, she adds it to a list of at least a million people, and then pronounces the words that you are anxiously waiting to hear her say, “it will be a 45 minute wait”.  “Forty five minutes”, you think to yourself, “I don’t know if I can live that long, I’ll be dead by then from starvation!”  The worst wait I have experienced at a restaurant was an hour and forty five minutes, last Valentines Day, and all I can say is “never again!”  So why do we stand in line for forty five minutes to get into a restaurant?

Because we’re hungry!  We are hungry people!  And it’s not just you and I that are hungry.  Here in America we have plenty and we line up at our favorite establishment while others around the world line up in front of huts and broken down buildings, but all for the same reason, because we’re hungry.  It’s a fact of life we need food to survive.  God made us that way.  It was the same in Jesus’ day.  Once while speaking to a large group of people near Tiberius the crowd grew hungry and Jesus fed them miraculously with just a few loaves of bread and fishes.  There were over 5,000 people there and they all got their fill.  Jesus dismissed them after dinner and they went their way but the next day they were seeking him out again, and when they found him, Jesus said to them, “I tell you the truth, you are looking for me not because you saw miraculous signs but because you ate the loaves and had your fill.  Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you.”  They were seeking Jesus because they were hungry!

They were hungry for natural food and since Jesus fed them the day before they thought if they followed him he would keep feeding them.  Hey that sounds pretty good doesn’t it?  Why they wouldn’t have to work, buy or cook food, just follow Jesus and get fed!  But they were seeking the wrong Jesus.  They were looking for the Jesus who would provide “easy street” living and not looking for Jesus the Son of God who would provide eternal life and save them from their sin. The world today is no different.  The world today is seeking the “Historical Jesus”, the “Famous Jesus”, the “Renown Jesus”.  In fact most people are seeking their “Own Jesus”, the Jesus who fits their needs, meets their own personal hungers, the Jesus who will let them be religious but live their own lives their own way.  They’re looking for the “Convenient Jesus.”  How about you?  What Jesus are you seeking?

God created us hungry people.  Yet he made us hungry not just for natural food but he has also made us spiritually hungry for him.  Deep with in us is a void that only a relationship with God can fill.  People run around trying to fill that void with everything but God and they remain hungry, starved, and empty.  Jesus said, “I am the bread of life.  He who comes to me will never go hungry and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.”  Oh, that you would seek Jesus the Savior, Jesus the Son of God and you’ll never be hungry again!
