We are always in motion. In fact have you ever tried to stop? Tried to stop the world, to rest, to be still? One morning last summer, which is my favorite time of the year, I was sitting out back on my covered patio early in the morning as I often do, with my Bible and a cup of black coffee, just taking in the warming morning sun and thinking. As the sun rose through the trees and soon over them it dawned on me that even when we are at rest, we are not at rest. We live on the surface of a rotating ball. I thought if I didn’t move if I stayed on that chair that in exactly 24 hours I would be in the exact same place, right? Wrong!
The realization of the journey is that neither you nor I will ever be in the exact same place again. In 24 hours I could be in the same place on my patio, in the same place on the earth’s rotation, but not in the same place in relation to the sun because of the earths orbit around the sun. Ok, then in 365 days I would be in the exact same place, right? Wrong!
The Milky Way is expanding. The Universe is in motion, so you will actually never be in the same place twice. Trees, plants, and nature are growing all around you and will never be the same size again. Even rocks, the river rocks around my pool are changing to, they are eroding getting smaller with each rain and wind storm. And then there is the clock. When I looked at the clock after sitting there thinking I notice the hands had moved indicating that time has slipped by never to return again. And then sitting there quietly I noticed that even when I think I’m at rest I’m not, because I can feel the beating of my heart which is moving blood continually throughout by veins. Time and space both march on!
There are no repeats. You and I are on a journey. So the question then is where are we going? Where will the journey lead? We are told in Ecclesiastes 3:11 “He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end”. The answer of course is that we are heading into eternity. To a place not governed by time but a constant unending present. We are being whisked away into eternity one second at a time to a final destination of either life with God or life without God, known as Heaven or Hell. Which is your final destination? While you and I are powerless to stop the process we are powered by choice of will to determine our outcome. The choice is accept or reject Jesus your Savior.
You are on a journey. Where will your journey end?
