The Lord God appeared to Moses at the burning bush and gave him his marching orders. Moses balked realizing his mission would require great communication skills. "I'm a terrible public speaker, Lord!" God was none to happy, but allowed Moses to include his brother, Aaron, in delivering the people from bondage. In tandem, they brought the people up from Egypt.
There is an often overlooked but quite interesting statement made during Moses' conversation with the Lord. In the response to Moses' reluctance concerning his verbal skills the Lord said this: "Who has made man's mouth? Or who makes the mute, the deaf, the seeing, or the blind? Have not I, the Lord? Now therefore, go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall say." (Ex 4:11, 12)
Why does the Lord make people that cannot speak, or hear, or see? Why does the Lord allow people to get sick; to die? The Psalm writer tells us that the Lord God forms us in the womb already knowing what we'll look like, and be like - and how many days we have upon the earth. (Psalm 139; also Job 14:5) We also know in the ninth chapter of John, Jesus says the reason the blind man brought before Him was born blind, was so Jesus could heal him at that appointed time.
God's agenda sure does run on a different track than ours. On the morrow, as I write this, John Challis will be laid to rest. This young man diagnosed with terminal cancer lived some kind of life even as the cancer did its deadly work. He made a real impact on the world. His passing was on all the local news programs and the internet. ESPN announced it to all the nation and tributes poured in from everywhere. (Check out You Tube as well.)
Why? What was it about this incredible kid that drew everyone to him like a magnet? We were mesmerized by John Challis because we were actually witnessing someone who had completely given himself over to God's agenda. How often do we really see that in this world?
The Scriptures tell us we are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ as a gift from God, and "we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand for us to do." (Eph 2:10) Before Moses was formed in the womb, God had the length of his days, his work and his mission already prepared. The same can be said for the blind man whom Jesus healed. And a teenager named John Challis. For each of them - Mission Accomplished!
What about you and me? Surely, we know God's agenda runs on a different track than ours. Will we give ourselves completely to Him, holding nothing back, and bring glory to His Name? If we do, it will be - Mission Accomplished!
