Have you ever wondered if Jesus were walking the earth today, teaching as he did in Biblical times, what he would say? What would he say to modern man in our technological world today? Would he have something different to say to us today than he did to the people of his day?

I don’t think so. He really wouldn’t have anything more to say to us than he did to any previous generation because we’re really not any different today than any previous generation. So what he said to them in his day applies to us today.

So the question is what did he say? One day when speaking to a crowd of thousands of the people of the world, a man in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.” Hey, that sounds like something someone might say today, doesn’t it? Jesus said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.” (Luke 12:13-21) Hey, that sounds like something he should say to us today, doesn’t it! In a nut shell, he then went on to tell them about a rich man who had it all but planned to build even bigger barns so he could store and have more. Hey, I think I know some people like that, don’t you? Jesus continued, “But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’ You see he was strongly warning the people of the earth, the people of his day, not to live for the here and now but to live richly for eternity! Our eternal outcome is more important than the here and now! And that will be determined by our salvation and not by our possessions. Are you saved? Are you sure that you would go heaven if you died right now? If not that is your most immediate and pressing issue, to secure your salvation not possessions!

Jesus then spoke directly to his disciples, those in the crowd of thousands who were sure of their salvation, “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; nor about the body, what you will wear. Life is more than food, and the body more than clothes.” (Luke 12:22-34) Hey, that sounds like they had the same concerns that we have, doesn’t it? Jesus continued, “Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?” You see the birds don’t worry, do they? God takes care of them so why do you worry if God takes care of the birds won’t he take care of those he has saved, those that Jesus gave his life for, that he died on the cross for? The average Pennsylvanian life span is 75.4 years, that equals 660,329 thousand hours of living, and you can’t add not even 1 little hour to that by all your worrying and concern about your life, basically about your things, even your basic things like; food, clothing, shelter. You see just like the birds Jesus followers need to plain and simply just trust God. Trust your Heavenly Father to take care of you and meet your every need (not your every want), but every need. And he will!

Now you decide, what’s it going to be? Barns or Birds? You’re just like the people Jesus was talking to, hey, he’s talking to you now! Be like the Birds!
