“And being in Bethany at the house of Simon the leper, as He sat at the table, a woman came having an alabaster flask of very costly oil of spikenard. Then she broke the flask and poured it on His head.” (Mark 14:3)

The very costly oil had been poured into a container made of a type of marble which was best for preservation of expensive perfumes and such oils. Mary broke the neck of the flask and poured out her devotion upon the Lord. Some in the room became angry at the supposed waste. But the Lord affirmed her sacrifice on His behalf. “She has done what she could. She has come beforehand to anoint My body for burial.” (vs. 8) Very soon after, His blood would be poured out for all mankind. And to those who believe, the gift of the Holy Spirit poured in, with the purpose that He then be poured out. Mary poured out all she could for His death. We are to do likewise for His resurrection and life.

Am I willing today to be as the flask? To be broken and what has been poured in, poured out? Are you?
