Jesus wanted to be with those who wanted to be with Him! His desire to be with the ones who loved Him, not perfect people, but people desirous of Him, is the same today. Your see God’s desire is for us. His desire is for you and me! His longing desire is to have a relationship with us and spend time with us. However, while we know Jesus’ desire for you, the question is what is your desire for Him? He also longed for His own Jewish people but they had no desire for Him, He said in Matthew 23:37 “Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, the way a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were unwilling”.

Have you ever had a desire for something? Have you had a strong wish for or a longing for something that you earnestly wanted and sought after? Sure you have. We all have been there and done that. Not too long ago I had a real desire to get a new computer that would be capable of doing some of the more advanced video and audio editing that I desire to do. So I diligently researched what type of processor I would need and what type of monitor would be best and did some comparison shopping and then… made the purchase! And now here I am typing this on that new PC.

We have many desires don’t we? Some are good and some are not so good. The fact is that every day and many times a day we think about our desires: what we like; what we don’t like; where we would like to go; where we’d like to be; what perfect lives we’d like to have; etc., etc. But have you ever thought about what God’s desires are? If you could pick God’s brain, if you could read God’s mind what would His desires be?

In Luke 22:15 we actually can read (literally) God’s mind because Jesus told us what it was when He said to His disciples, “I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer”. As I previously mentioned we all have desires and yet many of them are frivolous desires, and many not even for the right things, but most people when faced with death have realistic and meaningful desires, and that is exactly what is taking place in Jesus' life. Jesus is in the upper room with His disciples just prior to being arrested and crucified on the cross. Being God in the flesh, He knew what was going to take place that night and His greatest desire was… to be with His disciples. At the end of His life Jesus' desire was to be with the men that He had been training for the ministry of spreading the gospel and leading His church in the days to come. Although He knew one of them would betray Him, His desire was to finish His last hours, after the betrayer left, with the disciples that He loved so much.

So in your desires of life, are any of your desires for Jesus? Do you desire to know Him, spend time with Him, to live for Him, to serve Him? Or are you like so many, who are unwilling?
