“…when they were alone, He expounded all things to His disciples.” (Mark 4:34)

Do you dare to be alone? Answers to such a question are sure to bring a variety of responses - yes, no, sometimes, depends. If you’re like me being aloner is in the DNA. For most people too much alone time will have them going wall-climbing stir-crazy. But what of this question - do you dare to be alone with God? No garden bushes to hide behind. No city crowds to disappear into. No doors to conceal. No sort of vice-induced escapism. Just you and the Lord. Eye to eye. Heart to heart. Still. Honest. Open. If you and I are to grow, to know, to understand and to become, we must get alone with Him in such a way. Do you dare? Do I?

Getting alone with Him sweeps us right into Isaiah’s “Woe is me, for I am undone!” We’re undressed and naked in an instant. We’ve got unclean lips, hearts and minds. Our Sunday best becomes rags before Him. And there we are, alone. But it is there that He can really expound things to us. It is there He takes us a little at a time to greater knowledge, to deeper understanding, to one degree upon another of growing and becoming. If we are to go on with God, we must come to Him and be alone with Him. The crowds, even many in the church, prefer distance, satisfied with the status quo. The result of that is distance and status quo. Is that you? Me?

Do you dare to be alone with God? Do I?
